We got a chance to participate at the Regional Show 2025, under the theme, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Growth”

We came with something a little bit different, insects! More specifically, the Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) and the golden oil we extract from them.

So why the BSFL oil?

Behind the tiny larvae is a big solution;

  1. It’s a Natural Antibiotic

BSFL oil is loaded with lauric acid, the same fatty acid found in coconut oil and breast milk. Lauric acid is converted into monolaurin in the body, which helps combat bacteria, viruses, and fungi. That makes this oil great for boosting immunity, whether you’re a chicken, a pig, a fish, or even a human.

  1. Its Clean Energy for the Body

Thanks to its medium-chain fatty acids, this oil offers a quick energy boost. It digests easily and fuels the body without being stored as fat, making it perfect for animal feed and a promising supplement for human nutrition.

  1. It Heals and Protects the Skin

Yes, you can use it on your skin too!
With fatty acids like oleic and linoleic acid, this oil soothes inflammation, moisturizes dry skin, and even helps wounds heal. Imagine a sustainable oil that doubles up as a natural skincare remedy

 Nothing is Wasted

What’s even better? The whole system is circular. The oil comes from larvae that feed on organic waste , turning kitchen and market scraps into high-quality protein and oil. The frass (insect manure) goes back to the farm as organic fertilizer.

So yes, this humble black soldier fly isn’t just solving one problem. It’s tackling waste, food insecurity, rising feed costs, and climate change, all at a go.

At Eco Alchemy, we’re not just farming insects; we’re rethinking how we farm, how we eat, and how we care for the environment. Participating in the Regional Show reminded us just how powerful local innovations can be when they are given a platform.

That’s the mission. At Eco Alchemy, we are here to change how we see waste, one insect larvae at a time.
